 Strong crosswinds in the Wycliffe to Kimberley area have been playing havoc this morning, causing a couple of road closures in Kimberley.  Trees have been blown down on Highway 95A/Overwaitea Hill and Gerry Sorensen Way, causing road closures. Injury accident on Willowbrook

Two people were taken to East Kootenay Regional Hospital following a lunchtime accident on Willowbrook Drive in Cranbrook Dec. 28.

Cranbrook Fire and Emergency Services, Cranbrook RCMP and two BC Ambulance Service ambulances responded to the noon hour crash that closed the road briefly.

The driver of the Chevrolet sedan was taken to hospital and the passenger remained in the vehicle while a second ambulance arrived. The passenger required special care and was moved to a stretcher and later transported to EKRH.

 At approximately 9:20 p.m. on Thursday, November 6, Cranbrook Fire & Emergency Services responded to a structure fire at 1504-1st Street South – a 15-unit apartment complex. The fire alarm system was activated and notified the 17 tenants of the fire and they evacuated the building.  Read More

 At around 2:00PM a tractor trailer carrying approx 35 head of cattle over turned two kilometers south of Moyie on Highway 3. The driver was taken by ambulance to Cranbrook Regional Hospital with no-life threatening injuries. Flaggers were called and the road had to be closed while the Tractor Trailer was pulled upright by crews. Some of the cattle were so severely injured that they had to be put down.

 Firefighting crews were quickly able to put out a forest fire that started in the bush up near Standard Hill trailer park north of Cranbrook last Friday. According to Jason Gallagher, an Initial Attack Crew member, the fire started in the early afternoon. With the hot weather this week the forest service is keeping a close eye out for fires.

 A log home located off of Ha Ha Creek Forest Service Road burns during the evening hours last Wednesday. According to witnesses on scene the fire started near a stove chimney and quickly spread to the attic. Occupants of the home acted quickly to save as many prize possessions as they could before the blaze consumed the home. Luckily no one was injured in this fire.

 The historic old building on Van Horne that housed Swanson's Men's Wear was totally destroyed by fire early Sunday morning. Firefighters arrived at about 2:30AM but could do little more than contain the blaze. Investigators will begin looking into the causes of the fire. Historic records that were archived in the building were also destroyed in the blaze.

Laurie Jalbert of the Kimberley RCMP Detachment, officers and emergency personnel responded to a crash on Thomson Road. Two vehicles were involved in the crash. Two engines and 14 firefighters from the Cranbrook Fire Department responded to a call at 9:10PM says Fire Chief Wayne Erickson. Crews were able to douse the fire and save the unit in the back where a family lived but were unable to save the man who was likely overcome by smoke before firefighters arrived, Price said. The fire is not believed to be suspicious and an investigation is continuing  The name of the victim is not being released until notification of next of kin.

Controling the fire took only 15 minutes thanks to the swift work of Cranbrook firefighters. Their quick work prevented the fire from spreading to other rooms. Price said that six of the nine rooms were occupied by residents at the time of the fire.

 A silver Mercedes lost control near the Trout Hatchery on the Wardner-Fort Steele Road on the weekend. According to a witness the vehicle left the Bull River pub at a high rate of speed loosing control and flipping over the bank. BCAS, RCMP, and Cranbrook Search and Rescue responded to the wreck.

 Residents of a home that went up in flames New Year's Day are lucky to be alive. Cranbrook firefighters were called to a house fire on 4th Street and 9th Ave. The residents said firefighters were quick to take action and were able to save some of the family's possessions. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.

 During the early morning hours Tuesday, Cranbrook firefighters responded to a house fire on 12th Ave. The occupants of the home managed to escape the blaze safely. No one was hurt when a house fire started early morning, but the roof of the house was destroyed  making the house unlivable just two days before Christmas.
